Injuries cut his run short (and KD went out in round 2). He was playing well in the second round too (tho Giannis and KD I’d say was better than him in round 2). ATG title run.Ģ020 He was good overall, but he underperformed VS Denver (tho he wasn’t terrible throughout the series) and both Bron and AD were better.Ģ021 he was hands down the best player in the first round. With that said, Bron, KD, and Steph all had absurdly good runs that year too with cases of their own.Ģ019 Hands down best player in the playoffs. Absurdly efficient, great two-way ability. Id say that goes to Bron.Ģ017 He had a case for the best player in the playoffs. He wasn’t the best player in the playoffs that year. His stats just at a glance would put him as pretty much the best of the era but reality of how events went down just doesn’t back it up despite his godly play (for the most part).Ģ016 he was good overall but was outplayed by KD (and arguably Aldridge too) and lost to OKC (in a series you could argue he underperformed in). Where I’m at with Kawhi is he is a tier 1 playoff performer on ability in his prime, but his lack of durability is pretty glaring and what ends up holding Kawhi back in some of these discussions depending on who he is being compared to. The comparisons would potentially change depending on any other ATG you were to use to compare Kawhi with. Of course, this is simply just using Jordan and Bron. Guys like Jordan and Bron have like 10+ years with great playoff performances so they not only have competed at comparable levels to Kawhi, but also have done so a lot longer than him. Talent wise he’s def up there with the best of them at his best, but not even getting into other factors, Klaw’s lack of durability will always be glaring. At the same time, he isn’t anywhere near as durable as a LeBron or a Jordan and 3 of his 6 playoff runs in his prime ended in injuries. His peak truly is up there with the best of them in the history of the sport. Looking at his stats and games from 2017-2023 (which is his prime outside 2016 when he first ascended) his numbers are absolutely godly. If you happen to do your research and find some more stats feel free to share in the comments My free trial on statmuse ended and I'm too lazy to do more research, I'm going to bed. This is a 6-season sample size while LBJ/MJ did this over the course of 15+ seasons.
